handmade

I am particularly curious about creating threads from natural and locally abundant fibres- from sheep wool to dandelion stems.

I love working with my hands and getting to know new materials by touch. I learn through embodied practices and I adore spinning with drop spindles. These ancient tools allow me to move around and spin while walking.

My creative processes are multi-stranded- I spin, knit, crochet and weave with handspun yarn and selected prepared fibres from the British Isles, and I also make cordage from plant fibres.

Working with natural materials through each stage of the process, transforming them from a mass of incoherent fibres into a beautiful garment or useful item feels like nothing short of practical, slow magic and alchemy.

I love making my own beautiful, useful and tactile pieces of art from natural materials, including crocheted vessels, percussion instruments, and singing bowl cushions and felted drum beaters. See my gallery page for a curious range of pieces that I design and create.
